摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a propeller shaft assembly in which a transmission of a collision load in a propeller shaft of an automobile is reduced to a minimum limit and/or an energy can be absorbed. SOLUTION: The propeller shaft assembly (10) comprises a constant-velocity universal joint (12) having a hollow shaft (20) and a connecting shaft (18). The hollow shaft (20) has an outer joint part (23) having an outer lace face (31) which has an outer forward portion (32) and an outer rearward portion (34). The shaft (18) has an inner joint part (25) having an inner lace face (33) which has an inner forward portion (35) and an inner rearward portion (36). The shaft (18) further has a recessed surface (38). The shaft (18) also has a ball cage (26) having a plurality of torque transfer balls (28). At a collision time, the balls (28) are moved from the lace face (33) and dropped in the recessed surface (38) to collapse the shaft (18) in the shaft (20). COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
