New crystals of mammalian glucokinase, useful for identifying allosteric modulators, as hypoglycemic agents for treating type II diabetes, also new modulator

Crystals (A) of mammalian glucokinase (GK) comprising elementary cell dimensions a = b = 79.02-80.22 Angstrom; c = 318.03-325.03 Angstrom; alpha = beta = 90 degrees and gamma = 120 degrees, and symmetry group P6(5)22, are new. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) Co-crystal (A') of mammalian GK with a ligand (I) bound to the allosteric site of GK, having the same dimensions and symmetry properties as (A); (2) Method for co-crystallization of GK with (I); (3) Crystals prepared by method (2); and (4) Compounds (I) identified by analysis of the structural co-ordinates of (A').
