PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a square alkaline storage battery which restrains increase of thickness of an electrode group due to a charge/discharge cycle, with tightness of contact between electrodes of the electrode group well maintained and with little degradation of cycle characteristics. SOLUTION: With the sealed square alkaline storage battery containing in a square metal case 1 a group of electrodes structured by winding round positive electrodes 5 and negative electrodes 6 through separators 7 alternately laminated or piled one after another and alkaline electrolyte solution, the electrode group is bound by a strip 8 at least for one round.
