A power transmission device comprising a hub 3 and a pulley 7 that are mutually rotatably disposed on the same axis, a nip portion 3c formed in the hub, a disk-like holding plate 16 fixed to the hub and capable of elastic deformation in the direction of the thickness of the plate, a holding portion 16a to be placed over the nip portion 3c with a spacing left circumferentially of the holding plate, and a connecting plate 15 turnably held on an interposed member 13, which is fixed to the pulley, with a predetermined binding force by a rivet 14 and having a subject nip portion 15b nipped between the nip portion 13c and the holding portion 16a. An overload on the hub causes the nip portion 15b of the connecting plate to slip out from between the nip portion 13c and the holding portion 16a, whereupon the holding portion 16a, which has elastically returned, collides with the connecting plate 15 and the connecting plate 15 is turned around the axis of the rivet 14 to a retracted position.
