PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly detect overheating of an internal combustion engine for a marine vessel without being affected by a temperature sensor indicating a temperature higher than the actual engine temperature, which could occur depending on the location of the sensor, on high-loading immediately after the start of the engine. SOLUTION: A determination is made so to whether or not the time elapsed since the start of the internal combustion engine is within a first predetermined time (cTOHASO) (S22 and S28), and a determination is made as to whether or not a temperature TOH is not less than a first predetermined temperature (TOHFCL-DT) (S24). A determination is made as to whether or not the engine speed exceeds a predetermined engine speed (idle speed F. NA=1) (S30). If the answers are all affirmative, a process for changing a threshold value TOHFCL into a value TOHFCSO in the direction to elevate temperature is carried out (S58).
