PURPOSE: An opposed reciprocating compressor is provided to miniaturize the compressor by reducing length of a piston. CONSTITUTION: A compressor includes a casing(110) having a suction tube and a discharge tube connected to an upper side and a lower side thereof, respectively; a first reciprocating motor(121) and a second reciprocating motor(122) installed on both insides of the casing, respectively, and having movers(121B,122B) reciprocating in opposite directions, respectively; a cylinder(130) placed between the first reciprocating motor and the second reciprocating motor, and having a compression space(S1) penetrating coaxially with the first reciprocating motor and the second reciprocating motor, and a suction channel(132) and a discharge channel(133) independent to each other and connected with the compression space; a first piston(141) and a second piston(142) joined to the movers of the first reciprocating motor and the second reciprocating motor and inserted to the cylinder to slide so that front ends thereof face each other, respectively; a suction valve assembly(150) installed to the suction channel of the cylinder to control suction of fluid; and a discharge valve assembly(160) installed to the discharge channel of the cylinder to control discharge of fluid.
