PURPOSE: To make a signal processing circuit decide the quality of a binarized input signal even before the occurrence of a detection error in information contained in the input signal. CONSTITUTION: In a pulse signal generating circuit 60, a frequency modulated wobble signal supplied from an optical system 24 is binarized and converted into an FM pulse signal. By removing a noise from the pulse-shaped wobble signal binarized in the pulse signal generating circuit 60, the high level period and low level period of the wobble signal are detected. The number of rising edges of the pulse-shaped wobble signal binarized by the pulse signal generating circuit 60 within the period of one cycle adding these high level period and low level period, is counted. On the basis of that number of rising edges, the quality of the wobble signal is decided.
