PURPOSE: A method for controlling a hook switch of a telephone set is provided to detect the improper placement of a handset, even when a user puts the handset of the telephone set out of place, and to automatically convert a state to a hook-off state. CONSTITUTION: A controller checks whether a hook switch is in a hook-on state through a hook sensor(201). If not, the steps are ended, and if in a hook-on state, the controller measures a level of voice inputted through a telephone transmitter of a handset(203). If the measured voice level is under a preset reference call sound volume level(205), the controller operates a timer to count time for checking whether the hook-on state is maintained over a predetermined time based on the time counting(207). If so, the controller automatically converts a state of a hook switching part to a hook-off state, regardless of a placed state of the handset(209).
