PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To drastically save the capacity of a storage medium by storing only editing information concerning the original picture data without preserving the picture itself even in the case of preserving picture data relying on the resolution of a printer. SOLUTION: A first picture data is selected which is the original picture data to be edited by an application 111. A printer 170 for printing picture data is selected, editing information (sheet of paper size, its kind, a trimming range and a three-dimensional range, etc.), for editing picture data is selected. The first picture data is edited in a method suitable to the printer with specified resolution based on the resolution of the printer 170 and on editing information so that a second picture data is generated. Only information for performing editing to the first picture data is preserved in an HD 121 as preservation data and the first picture data is reproduced from the second picture data based on the preserved preservation data.
