The object detection device has an optoelectronic imaging unit directed towards the automobile windscreen, provided with an objective and a sensor array, coupled to an evaluation unit. A light stop (6) associated with the objective has a central region (7) with maximum light transmission, a concentric region with a lower light transmission and a transition region between them, for imaging a point light source outside the focus range onto the sensor array with a uniform brightness transition between the point light source and its surroundings.
