PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display rich contents, to which tags which is based on the premise that layout processing are versatile with a lower display load by a portable terminal, such as a portable telephone or PDA, without having to edit contents data. SOLUTION: This method for providing contents for providing contents data to internet terminals 1a-1d, by using a server computer 6 comprises a determination step for determining whether or not the classifications of the internet terminals 1a-1d are preliminarily registered terminals to be converted; a contraction step for, when preliminarily registered tags to be converted accompanied with the layout processing at the internet terminal side are present in contents data whose distribution, is requested in a request message, contracting markup language by converting those tags to be converted into in-line system tags capable of performing display similar to the display with the tags to be converted by pouring in of the tags, without accompanying with layout processings on the internet terminal side; and a distribution step for distributing the contracted contents data to the internet terminals.
