The present invention is an expandable sleeve (704) deployable in a surgical implant. The sleeve (704) has a head (720), a tubular shaft (722) defining an open interior, and a distal tip (724) with the shaft (722) having a length dimension. The shaft (722) is provided with a plurality of slots (271) that divide the shaft (722) into partitions, wherein each of the partitions has a length, and the length of the partitions are not all equal. For example, the slots (271) may have a curved portion that extends at an angle between 00 and 900 to the length dimension of the shaft (722). The slots (271) may also have a straight portion and a curved portion.
