(1) A prostaglandin E (PGE) receptor which is a novel polypeptide; (2) a cDNA encoding this polypeptide and a fragment selectively hybridizable with its sequence; (3) a replication or expression vector comprising this DNA; (4) host cells transformed by the replication or expression vector; (5) a process for producing the above polypeptide by culturing these host cells; (6) a monoclonal or polyclonal antibody against the above polypeptide; (7) medicinal compositions comprising the above polypeptide or the above antibody together with a pharmaceutically acceptable filler and/or an antibody; and (8) a method of screening a compound having an agonistic or antagonistic activity to EP1. This polypeptide is usable as remedies for diseases caused by overproduction of PGE2 such as pain, fever and urinary frequency.
