PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microwave oven the electric power saving function of which can work automatically and can be cancelled automatically when the door of the oven is opened. SOLUTION: This microwave oven has a power supply section, a main body in which a cooking chamber is formed, the door 5 which opens and closes the cooking chamber, a magnetron, and high-voltage and low-voltage generating sections 23 and 20 which are connected in parallel with the power supply section and supply electric power to the power supply section. This oven includes a door switch 21, a power saving switch 19, and a control section 17. The door switch 21 is installed to the junction of the power supply lines to the voltage generating sections 23 and 22 and selectively connects the power supply section to one of the voltage generating sections 20 and 30 in an interlocking way with the opening and closing of the door 5. The power saving switch 19 is arranged on the by-pass line of the door switch 21 and breaks the connection between the power supply section and low-voltage generating section 20. The control section 17 breaks the power supply to the low-voltage generating section 20 by turning off the power saving switch 19 when a prescribed period of time elapses after the operation of the magnetron ends at the time of closing the door 5.
