PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of efficiency suppressing the propagation of bacteria existing in water, such as brine, containing electrolyte with lower electric power consumption without being accompanied by the generation of toxic gas. SOLUTION: This energization antimicrobial method decreases the bacteria sticking to the surface to be treated in contact with the water containing the bacteria by arranging an antimicrobial electrode to the surface to be treated and arranging another electrode opposite thereto and impressing voltages between the electrodes, in which the pulse voltages are impressed to the electrodes while the pulse voltages are changed over in a positive direction and a negative direction at specified intervals.
