PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact automatic empty can squashing machine capable of rapidly squash empty cans one by one, and reliably sorting the empty cans to be squashed into steel cans and aluminum cans. SOLUTION: A guide cylinder 5 for guiding an empty can A to an opening of a cylinder 1 is fitted to the outer side of an opening/closing lid 3, and two sensors 16a and 16b for detecting the kind of the empty can A are provided on the guide cylinder 5 to sort the kind of the empty can A to be thrown in the cylinder 1. Inclined faces 11 and 14 are formed in outer parts of a front face of the piston head 10 for compressing the empty can A and an inner surface of the opening/closing lid 3, a bottom part of the empty can A to be pressed is guided to the center side so that the empty can A is naturally held by the center part of the cylinder 1 when compression is started, and the empty cans A can be rapidly squeezed one by one without damaging the cylinder 1.
