PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet head which is compact and discharges ink with good performance by forming grooves to faces of the side opposite to discrete electrodes of diaphragms and deforming the diaphragms by a low voltage appropriately. SOLUTION: A sealed actuator 14 of the ink jet head has the diaphragm 6 set to a part of each liquid channel to which ink is supplied through a liquid resistance from a common ink channel, and the discrete electrode 4 arranged opposite via a predetermined gap to each diaphragm 6. The groove 15 is formed to the face of the diaphragm 6 at the side of the discrete electrode 4. The volume of the actuator 14 is increased by the groove 15 formed to the diaphragm 6, and therefore a pressure rise generated inside the actuator 14 when the diaphragm is deformed towards the discrete electrode 4 is suppressed. The diaphragm 6 is deformed stably by the low voltage, realizing the performance of discharging ink drops stably. High-speed recording is thus enabled and at the same time, the image quality of recording images can be improved.
