PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a NOx occlusion-reduction type catalyst which has a high NOx occlusion-reduction capacity, can sufficiently control the generation of coarse particles of a sulfur compound which are formed when the catalyst is subjected to sulfur poisoning, and is excellent in durability against sulfur poisoning and a method for producing the catalyst. SOLUTION: In the catalyst containing at least one metal compound selected from the group consisting of a complex oxide of titanium and a metal other than titanium, titanium oxide, an oxide of a metal other than titanium, and a carbonate of a metal other than titanium and a noble metal, the complex oxide is in the form of particles 15 nm or below in average particle size, the metal compound is in the form of particles 15 nm in average particle size, and at least part of the noble metal is supported on the complex oxide particles and/or the metal compound particles. |
