SKEW CORRECTING DEVICE AND ITS METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute positioning in the direction of the width of a medium simultaneously with correction of skew of the medium fed in a conveyance route and to enable simultaneous detection of propriety of correction and positioning. SOLUTION: A skew correcting device comprises a conveyance route 102 for a medium; a direction correcting roller 600 to transfer a medium fed to the conveyance route 102 in an oblique direction; a side wall member 400 having a side guide surface 403a with which the side edge of the medium fed to the conveyance route 102 is brought into contact; and attitude confirming sensors 405 situated in the approach position of the side guide surface 403a and a plurality of spots along the side guide surface 403a, and detecting the medium in the position. The medium transferred in an oblique direction by the direction correcting roller 600 has its side edge making contact with a side guide surface 403a of the side wall member 400 and simultaneously with correction of the skew, positioning in the direction of width is effected based on the side guide surface 403a forming a reference surface.
