PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device wherein usual display and white/black reverse display of numerals and alphabets including KANJI (Chinese characters) can be performed and reverse display characters are easily viewed. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device is provided with data display regions Cij of n×m units each of which is a display region Cij of 6×8 dots as a character data display unit, an auxiliary line display region HL, VL consisting of a horizontal auxiliary line display region HL adjacent to the upper end Ci1 of the data display regions Cij and a vertical auxiliary line display region VL adjacent to the right end Cnj of the data display regions Cij and the horizontal auxiliary line display region HL, a usual display pattern storage means 28 displaying a character part in black, a data reversing circuit 29 reversing a character pattern data 28a at the time of white/black reverse display and auxiliary line reversing circuits 31 and 32 reversing the display of the lowest line and the left-most row of the display unit respectively adjacent to the upper side and the right side of the reversed character display unit in black.
