PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing ethylidene-tetracyclododecene in which the production of heavy byproducts is suppressed and the reaction is safely carried out by suppressing the accumulation of reaction heat. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing ethylidene-tetracyclododecene is carried out as follows: when dicyclopentadiene(DCPD) and 5-ethylidene-2- norbornene are subjected to pyrolysis, the initial content of cyclopentadiene(CPD) in the DCPD is made <=10 mass%, and the equilibrium concentration of CPD determined from the relational expression [CPD]=2×α×[DCPD](0) wherein, [CPD] is an equilibrium concentration (mol/kg) of CPD; [DCPD](0) is an initial concentration (mol/kg) of DCPD; andα=[-K+(K2+16K)0.5]/8K=1.63×106 exp(-7.83×103/T) (wherein, T is a reaction temperature (absolute temperature))} using the initial concentration of the DCPD is made <=2 mol/kg.
