PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can evade paper sheets from being futilely consumed by making it possible to confirm that an existent print surface is to be used and notify an operator of that at the start of the operation of the apparatus, etc. SOLUTION: When a paper feed tray 1 is opened and closed for form replenishment, a scanner unit 2 operates to read the top surface of a supplied form P. This operation is performed even in initial operation when the power source is turned on. Image data read by the scanner unit 2 are passed through an A/D converter 9 and a RAM 10 and a comparing circuit 11 confirms whether or not there are image data. When image data are present, a CPU 12 confirms that the form P has been stored having the printed surface on the read surface side of the scanner unit 2. That is displayed on a display panel 15 to attract operator's attention. |
