PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a copper strip for an insulated electric wire and its manufacturing method, in which the discoloration can be prevented and various properties of the electric wire can be maintained even if it is exposed outdoors for a long term after used to make the electric wire, and which is superior in color fastness. SOLUTION: After pickling of the rolled and annealed copper strip for insulated electric wire is carried out and the strip is brought into contact with a discoloration-preventive solution containing alkylimidazole and aminotriazole, it is washed with water, and dried. A discoloration-preventive coating containing alkylimidazole and aminotriazole is formed on the surface of the copper strip and it has an extremely superior color fastness compared with that obtained by the discoloration-preventive treatment which uses a rust-preventive agent of conventional benzotriazole or the like.
