PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To record a data stream so that a reproducing side can accurately detect the occurrence of an error. SOLUTION: Three bits on an MSB side of an SB header represent a data type to be recorded on a 95-byte data area following the SB header. When the three bits of the MSB side of the SB header are 000, the data type is defined as PES-VIDEO. When the three bits on the MSB side of the SB header are 001, the data type is defined as PES-AUDIO. When the data type is the PES- VIDE or PES-AUDIO, a full/partial flag is recorded on the fourth bit from the MSB side of the SB header, and a continuity count value showing the continuity of the SB of the same data type is recorded on the four bits on the LSB side following the full/partial flag.
