The present invention provides new methods for inhibiting the activity of th e enzyme cycloxygenase-2 (or COX-2). Inhibitors of COX-2 are known to be usefu l anti-inflammatory, analgesic and anti-angiogenic agents. The compounds in th e present case are heterocyclic substituted 4-aminoglutarimides. Methods of using the compounds to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis are claimed.
