A foot portion (42) for a crutch (12) includes a ball and socket joint arrangement (44) attachable to an end portion (46) of the crutch (12) and a resiliently deformable connecting element (48) in the form of a cable (54) connecting the ball (50) to the socket (52) and biasing the ball and socket joint (44) into a preferred position as shown in the Figure. The ball (50) includes a recess (64) surrounding the cable (54) so as to provide a space for the cable (54) to flex into when the first member (56) is displaced about the ball (50). The first member (56) also includes a recess (66) above the socket (52) and surrounding the cable (54) so as to provide a space for the cable (54) to flex into when the first member (56) is displaced about the ball (50).
