PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for punching a work and its apparatus in which a plate material can securely be centered without affecting a transfer speed etc. of the plate material and a work can be efficiently punched in a high precision. SOLUTION: When a plate material 3 having corner parts 22, 23 to both sides is placed on a die 15 and a work 2 is by descending forming punches 19, 20, the plate material 3 is horizontally pressed to counter punches 16, 17 arranged with a pair of guides parts 28, 29 which face both corner parts 22, 23 of the plate material 3 and incline in the direction descending toward the center of the plate material 3 prior to punching of the 2 by the forming punches 19, 20, the corner parts 22, 23 of the plate material 3 is brought into sliding contact with the work guide inclined parts 28, 29, thereby centering the plate material 3.
