SOFT GROUND IMPROVEMENT BY VACUUM CONSOLIDATION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide soft ground improvement by a vacuum consolidation method capable of consolidating soft ground effectively and easily or by a work having less coupling of pressure reducing means for vertical drains dispensing with a conventional sand mat, horizontal drains or consolidation sheet. SOLUTION: By coating an air impermeable layer on the outer peripheral surface by a predetermined length from an end portion at the top end of a vertical drain member 2 thereby providing the impervious portion 15 isolated from venting which provides water permeability and isolate venting from the peripheral surface, and bottom of the air impervious portion 15 is inserted into the soft subsoil 1 to a predetermined depth from the surface, a water drain hose 18 communicating with the pressure reducing means is coupled though an airtight cap 17, and the inside of a drain member 2 is decompressed by a pressure reducing means.
