PURPOSE: A speaker is provided to reduce peak and dip at frequency response characteristics and improve directivity by employing an air tube for the suspension. CONSTITUTION: A tube type edge(3) having an elliptical cross section is arranged at the edge of a cone sheet(1) and a frame(2). The edge serving as an external suspension is attached to the edges of the cone sheet and the frame, respectively, so as to prevent mutual influence between acoustic waves radiated from the front surface and rear surface of the speaker unit. A damper(4) serving as an internal suspension is fixed to the frame and at the portion immediately above a voice coil(5) so as to allow the voice coil to be accurately located at the center of the magnetic circuit. The edge and the damper are made up of an elastic material, such that only the shape of cross section of the edge changes, without being influenced by an air pressure or elasticity of the elastic material forming the edge and damper, until an amplitude reaches a predetermined level. The shape of the cross section of the edge, air pressure and elasticity of the elastic material exert influence to the control of the cone sheet when the amplitude is higher than a predetermined level.
