PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for prolonging the effective life of an adhesion promoting bath facilitating the restart of a bath after the stop over a long period without requiring the preparation of a new bath. SOLUTION: This method for replenishing an adhesion promoting bath containing acid, an oxidant, a corrosion inhibitor and, optionally, one or more other components after the stop over a long period, includes a stage in which the concentrations of the acid, oxidant and optional components are controlled to effective levels, and a corrosion inhibitor is added by an amount capable of providing a conversion-coated substrate surface having sufficient darkness and peeling strength.
