PURPOSE: To prevent the occurrence of a flicker on a display screen at the time of switching a display mode or at the time of switching an input signal. CONSTITUTION: In the active matrix type liquid crystal display device having a pixel matrix 10, data driver circuit 12-1 to 12-N for driving a data line, and a control means 20 for controlling the data driver circuits and the gate driver circuits and for invertingly driving the pixel matrix by the data driver circuits and the gate driver circuit, the control means controls the gate driver circuits so that the polarity of potential difference between the pixel electrode potential and the common electrode potential can be made equal in all the pixels of the pixel matrix just before power supply to the pixel matrix is stopped.
