PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refrigerating/defrosting chamber, that minimizes quality deterioration in foods by completing defrosting at specified time, when defrosted food is required, and by counting backward, from the specified time for refrigerating and preserving them as long as possible. SOLUTION: Internal temperature of food is calculated b a food temperature operation means 15 according to a cooling means 3 that cools the food, a heating means 4 that heats the food, and food temperature sensors 13a and 13b for detecting the ambient temperature of the food, the ambient temperature of the food, and the heat transfer characteristics of the food being stored by a storage means 14, defrosting requirement time when the food being subjected to refrigerating and defrosting is defrosted at fixed defrosting atmosphere temperature which is higher than refrigerating one is calculated, by a defrosting requirement time operation means 18 according to the heat transfer characteristics of food, and control is made by an atmosphere temperature control means 19 so that the atmosphere temperature is changed automatically from defrosting temperature to the defrosting atmosphere, one at time when the defrosting requirement time is counted backward from defrosting completion preset time, and defrosting is completed at the defrost completion preset time.
