PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the sensitivity of picked-up images appropriate according to travel environment. SOLUTION: In a step S8, travel environment is judged on the basis of present position information detected from a GPS signal, and a map data base 109. In a step S9, whether or not a vehicle is traveling on a superhighway in an urban area is judged. In the case of not traveling on the superhighway in the urban area in the step S9, whether or not the vehicle is traveling on a general road is judged in a step S13. In the case of traveling on the general road in the step S13, proceed to a step S14 and set to heighten filter sensitivity to man. In the case of not traveling on the general road in the step S13, the vehicle is assumed to be traveling on a superhighway outside of an urban area, where there is the possibility of animals jumping out, and thereby proceed to a step 15, and filter sensitivity is set to a radiation temperature width between an automobile and animals so that filter sensitivity to animals is not excessively low.
