PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve holding rigidity by reducing the projecting amount of a tool holder from a machine tool spindle. SOLUTION: In transmitting the energizing force of a compression coil spring 84 to a connecting member 86 by changing the direction of the energizing force by an outer peripheral side tapered face 77 of a relative rotation preventing member 72, an inner peripheral side tapered face 106 of the connecting member 86, a holding groove of a holding member 114 and a steel ball 102 disposed between them, the steel ball 102 is disposed in the same phase as an engaging piece 74 of the relative rotation preventing member 72 to support the steel ball 102 by the engaging piece 74 from the inner peripheral side. There is therefore no need to provide the relative rotation preventing member 72 with an exclusive support part for supporting the steel ball 102 from the inner peripheral side, so that the steel ball 102 and the outer peripheral side tapered face 77 can be brought close to an adaptor 12 by that portion to reduce the projecting quantity of a tool holder from the adaptor 12 (forming a part of a machine tool spindle).
