PURPOSE: A method for manufacturing a silica coating film on a metal matrix is provided to manufacture silica coated metal materials having superior heat resistance, chemical resistance and forming property by forming on the metal matrix a composite coating layer comprising an elaborate and hard coating layer and a coating layer having ductility for plastic working. CONSTITUTION: The method for manufacturing a silica coating film on a metal matrix(10) comprises the steps of forming a first coating layer(20) on the surface of which open pores exist, and the inner part of which is consisted of an elaborate silica film by heat treating the solution coated metal matrix after coating a metal matrix selected from the group consisting of a rolled steel sheet, a stainless steel sheet and an aluminum sheet with a sol phase solution prepared by mixing tetraethoxysilane, polyethyleneglycol, isopropanol, dimethylformamide, water and phosphoric acid in the dipping process; and forming a second coating layer(30) in which methyl groups exist in the skeletal structure of Si-O by heat treating the first coating layer coated with the second coating solution after coating a first coating layer with a sol phase solution for second coating prepared by mixing methyltriethoxysilane, isopropanol, dimethylformamide, water and nitric acid in the dipping process.
