PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an edge detecting method or the like capable of easily detecting an edge in a short time while maintaining minimum accuracy. SOLUTION: When detecting the edge of a border line between one image constitution composing a source image and being included in the relevant source image and the other image constitution adjacent to relevant one image constitution within the relevant source image to encode the source image for the unit of macro block MB on the basis of the presence/absence of the relevant edge inside the macro block MB constituted by including plural pixels G composing the source image, the pixel G included in the macro block MB is scanned along plural scan lines SL1 and SL2 in mutually different directions, the presence/ absence of a change in the luminance of the relevant pixel G between mutually adjacent two pixels G on the relevant scan lines SL1 and SL2 is detected and when there is a change in the luminance on any one of scan lines SL1 and SL2, it is detected the edge is included in the relevant scanned macro block MB. |
