A method for cleaning the insides of pipes that are too small for human access has a cleaning unit with a cylindrical housing on which is fitted a rotating head. The head carries a radial arm with a rotating cleaning tool (10) at the free end. This tool is swept over the inside of the pipe as the unit moves along the inside of the pipe. The supply feeds are trailed out of the rear of the unit and the propulsion is in the rear of the unit. The power for the unit is either via electric motors or using pneumatic motors. The drive between the motors and the cleaning head is via simple mechanical gearing.
