PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To keep the treatment capacity of a precoat type filtering dehydrator constant to make obtainable a dehydrated cake with constant water content. SOLUTION: A part of a rotary drum 4 of which the outer peripheral surface is precoated with a filter material 2 is brought into contact with the treated liquid in a treated liquid hopper 8 which is formed by both wall surfaces 12 and the upper surface of a cutter of which the edge is turned obliquely downward and the edge of the cutter is brought into contact with the rotary drum while the rotary drum is rotated to scrape the surface of the filter material to scrape off a dehydrated cake (filtered refuse). An overflow part 30 discharging the excessive treated liquid in the treated liquid hopper is formed to the cutter 14 to determine the height of the liquid level of the hopper. When the filter material becomes thin with the advance of filtering, the cutter lowers gradually and the bottom partion of the treated liquid hopper becomes low but, since the overflow part falls at the same time, the depth of the treated liquid in the treated liquid hopper is not changed and the area of the liquid contact part of the rotary drum and the treated liquid is kept almost constant.
