The differential has a housing with differential gears and connected take-off shafts. A ring gear (42) is in drive connection with a drive pinion, and turnable relative to the differential housing (12). Ramps (56), angled directly or indirectly to the rotary plane, are positioned in the power flux between ring gear and housing. During relative turning, the ramps cause an axial expansion between gear and housing to increase the axial roller bearing pre-tension. To make this temperature-independent, the device incorporates compensation elements (64), which react to temperature variations.
