PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an associative memory device and associative memory searching method which can optimize the searching range of the next search based on the preceding search result on the occasion of outputting existence or non-existence of the same or similar data by searching many search object data based on the input search data. SOLUTION: The associative memory device comprises a matching search circuit array 13 having a plurality of a matching search circuit 134 for determining whether the input word data matches the word stored or not in the memory cell array 16, a priority circuit 12 for selecting the highest priority search result signal and a search range designating circuit 14 for sending, to the matching search circuit 134, the active signal which inhibits search of the word except for the relevant word corresponding to the highest priority search result signal at the rising edge of the clock for starting the next search.
