PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow even a child with small hands to grasp a narrow-width section simply and reliably and to improve safety by forming narrow-width sections and wide-width sections on handrails in a passenger conveyor having handrails traveled synchronously with treads on balustrades erected on the right and left of the treads. SOLUTION: A passenger conveyor 1 is provided with treads 2 conveying people on them, balustrades 3 erected on the right and left of the treads 2, and handrails 4 traveled synchronously with the treads 2 on the balustrades 3. The handrails 4 are formed with wide-width sections 5 set to the normal width, e.g. 82 mm, and narrow-width sections set to a width, e.g. about 40 mm. A child with small hands is allowed to grasp the narrow-width section 6 in supporting the handrail 4. Even the child can utilize the passenger conveyor 1 safely.
