PURPOSE:To efficiently obtain the subject dimer useful as an intermediate, etc., for nylon 66 raw materials, etc., in a high selectivity and yield while suppressing production of branched dimer as a by-product by adding a carboxylic acid beta-cyanoethyl ester to acrylonitrile and dimerizing acrylonitrile in the presence of a ruthenium compound, etc. CONSTITUTION:A carboxylic acid beta-cyanoethyl ester such as beta-cyanoethyl propionate is added to acrylonitrile and acrylonitrile is dimerized in the presence of a ruthenium compound such as ruthenium chloride and a carboxylic acid such as acetic acid to provide the objective dimmers comprising 1,4- dicyanobutene, 1,4-dicyanobutadiene and adiponitrile of straight-chain dimmers. |
