PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance safety of a bicycle by detecting a vehicle that approaches the bicycle from behind and receiving an approaching vehicle signal output through an analysis of a signal provided by an approaching vehicle detecting means, thereby generating an alarm for the rider. SOLUTION: A phototransistor 3 is installed to a seat post 1a of a bicycle 1 as a sensor. The sensor 3 is installed so that it faces backward to detect light emitted by headlamps of a vehicle. An output from the sensor 3 is input to an information-processing unit 4 which performs arithmetic operations of changes in the output and color temperature of the emitting light to determine whether the vehicle headlamps are approaching. The resultant signal is applied to an alarm generator 5 which, if a vehicle is approaching, triggers a buzzer or other warning device to warn the rider that a vehicle is approaching. This allows the rider to know that a vehicle is approaching from behind, contributing to an enhanced safety in bicycle riding.
|
