PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide shoes which have automatically string tightening and untightening functions. SOLUTION: When a user's foot is inserted into a shoes body 1 to step on a press plate 6, the press plate 6 presses and stretches a crank arm 53 so that the crank arm 53 slides forward a tie piece 51 until the tie piece 51 pulls a shoe string 3 into an action space 10 of the shoes body 1. So, the shoe spring 3 tightens an upper of the shoes body 1. Then, a push button 71 is depressed to release retaining of the press plate 6 with a lock piece 72 on an insertion member 61. Thereafter, when the user withdraws his foot from the shoes body 1, the press plate 6 is opened upward under the action of an elastic member 8 so that the crank arm 53 pulls the tie piece 51 backward to make the tie piece lose the action of pulling the shoe string, causing the shoe string 3 to be loosened thereby facilitating the taking off of the shoes by the user.
