Tobacco smoke filter in the form of a pellet or plug of filter material for placement in a cigarette, cigar or in the smoke channel of a pipe, is treated with a di-polymethylenetriamine. The di-polymethylenetriamine pref. has the formula (I):- H2N-(CH2)x-NH-(CH2)y-NH2 (I) COX (II) (where x and y are at least equal to two). The polymer (I) may be condensed with groups of formulae (II) where X is OH, Cl, Br, etc.). The polymer is pref. applied in the form of a soln. The treated filters retain considerably more tar and nicotine than untreated filters.
