The invention relates to a method for producing a mortar which resembles a mortar used for a historical structure and to lime pops and their use as constituents for adding to and mixing with a mortar. The aim of the invention is to provide a relatively simple, inexpensive means of copying mortars used for historical structures as exactly as possible in terms of their composition and appearance using modern products. To this end, the composition of a sample of the original mortar is determined. At the same time, this sample is used to determine the size of the lime pops contained in the mortar. The lime pops are then produced in the form of a fairly solid mixture consisting of calcium hydroxide and/or calcium carbonate or another calcium compound and/or a mortar-compatible substance, in a predetermined size. After the lime pops have been produced, they are mixed with the other determined constituents of the historical mortar in a mortar-mixing device.
