The combustion chamber (4) of the heating device has a cross section which deviates from a round shape, and may be three or four sided. The combustion chamber has a means for adaptation of its cross section as a guide device, especially an inlet nozzle for fed back combustion gases. The combustion chamber is formed as a separate unit with tubular boundary walls. The burner (3) has a flame tube, especially with a round cross section, protruding into the combustion chamber.
