For a stereoscopic endoscope, the intermediate image produced in a rod-shaped endoscopic attachment (46) is projected into the focal plane of an objective (41). The objective can be the long-focal-length main objective (41) of a surgical microscope or, in a further exemplary embodiment, the main objective (56) of a stereoscopic recording system. Together with launch optics (47) in the endoscopic attachment, the main objective (41) forms a reversed telescope. The instrument pupils of the viewing instrument are projected next to one another into the attachment.
