A fiber made from a polyester comprising at least 90 wt.% of polytrimethylene terephthalate and having a limiting viscosity of 0.4 to 2, characterized in that the fiber contains phosphorus compounds in an amount of 10 to 250 ppm in terms of phosphorus element and a cyclic dimer in an amount of 3 wt.% or below, that the polytrimethylene terephthalate contains bis(3-hydroxypropyl) ether copolymerized therewith in an amount of 2 wt.% or below and that the birefringence of the fiber is 0.03 or above. The fiber is a polytrimethylene terephthalate fiber which is produced by melt spinning from a polytrimethylene terephthalate resin composition improved in whiteness and stabilities in melting and spinning and which is excellent in whiteness, strength and processability and can provide fabrics having functions that cannot be attained by general-purpose polyester fibers or nylon fibers for clothing when used in combination with stretch fibers and so on.
|
