PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To satisfactorily perform auxiliary control processing such as optical system focusing or detection of the number of lines in an original image by extracting as a reference area for auxiliary control processing, a unit area in which a calculated contrast matches a predetermined discrimination reference. SOLUTION: Prescan data are inputted from a CCD 7 through a scanner CPU 9 to a main CPU 12 and based on these data, an image is displayed on a display 18 and stored in memory 15. Then, a trimming range is designated by an operating part 17 while observing the image. When the designation is completed, the image contrasts on respective lines within the trimming range are successively obtained by the prescan data stored in the memory 15. In this process, a line with the contrast higher than a predetermined threshold A is defined as a focus line. Thus, since the line having a contrast sufficient for discriminating a focused state can be set as a focus line, a CCD sensor 7 and a lens 6 are guided to a focused position in focus control processing. |
